NDWA — as part of the We Are Home campaign — has been fighting for several months to win a path to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients, farmworkers, and all essential workers as part of the Congressional budget reconciliation bill.

But recently, the Senate Parliamentarian ruled against the legislative proposal to put immigrant youth, TPS-holders, farm workers, and essential workers on a pathway to citizenship, stating that the proposal could not proceed through reconciliation because it was a policy change that substantially outweighed the impact on the budget.

Though this ruling is a setback for our movement, the fight is far from over.

This means that our demand for citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS-holders, farm workers, and essential workers can’t go through reconciliation, which is heartbreaking, BUT we also know that we have strong support — President Biden, Democrats in Congress, and 70% of the American public strongly support immigration reform that creates pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

We refuse to walk away empty-handed. This is the year to turn that public support into legislative results that transform lives — we’re not giving up.

Our movement has been researching alternative proposals to win justice for as many immigrants as possible in this budget bill. We need you to take action today: call Congressional Leadership to tell them they must pass citizenship for immigrant communities as part of the Build Back Better Act.
