The National Domestic Workers Alliance Condemns the Alleged Sexual Abuse History of Cesar Chavez

WASHINGTON – Today, the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) joins the community of voices denouncing Cesar Chavez’s history as an accused abuser and stands with Dolores Huerta and survivors everywhere. This is a painful moment for many in the domestic worker community and beyond.

Jenn Stowe, Executive Director of NDWA, issued the following statement:

“We are heartbroken and disturbed by the revelations of harm connected to Cesar Chavez. Domestic workers stand in solidarity with Dolores Huerta and all survivors who have carried years of pain in silence. Their courage reminds us that telling the truth about harm is essential, even when it is painful.

We also stand with farm workers and the broader movement, whose fight for dignity, safety, and justice is bigger than any one person. We thank Dolores Huerta for inspiring generations of low-wage workers, women of color, and immigrant women to keep organizing until we realize a world free from violence and gender inequality.

Standing with survivors is part of the fight for workers’ dignity. Honoring workers’ movements means telling the truth about harm and committing ourselves to the safety and freedom of all workers. Women, and all workers, deserve safety, respect, and freedom from violence and exploitation. We must support survivors, confront harm, and ensure our actions reflect gender equity and justice.”
