In response to an Immigration Customs Enforcement agent fatally shooting a woman observing immigration enforcement action in a Minneapolis neighborhood, the National Domestic Workers Alliance released this statement:
“We are heartbroken and enraged to hear of the killing of Renee Good, a Minneapolis woman, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent after she stopped to bear witness to ICE’s treatment of her immigrant neighbors.
We know that when ICE agents descend on our communities, they do nothing but stoke fear and pose a direct threat to our neighbors and families. This latest tragedy is not isolated and follows the ongoing assault on Minnesota by the Trump Administration, including targeted vitriol against the Somali community, and an aggressive campaign to strip the state’s families of child care.
ICE agents and the Administration would like us to believe that our neighbors – the people who work, live, and add so much richness to our communities – are the ones to fear. Today makes it clear, yet again, that it is ICE agents, their anti-immigrant violence, and overreach of power, that make the places that should feel safe for our families dangerous.
Despite attempts to sow fear and instability, we will continue to organize and ensure the safety of our neighbors and families.”
