Washington, D.C. – National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) Executive Director Jenn Stowe issued the following statement on passage through the Senate of legislation to gut Medicaid, separate immigrant families, and hand huge tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.
“Too often, a number of officials in D.C. get away with hurting workers and families to enrich those at the very top, banking on the assumption that debates in the nation’s capital feel far away and removed from peoples’ lives.
People in every corner of the country will feel the harm of the legislation the Senate just passed, including the 54 million children, people with disabilities, and older adults no longer able to get care that allows them to live with dignity in their communities, and immigrant families who will face even more inhumane deportations and raids paid for by these cuts to our health care. The care workers who provide essential support to our loved ones and strengthen our communities and economy are also at a heightened risk. These cuts will weaken the care economy we depend on, deepening shortages and puttig more families in crisis.
Care workers and families want health care and safety, not Medicaid cuts and ICE raids.
People across our nation have spoken out loud and clear against this bill, to say they need health care, food assistance, the critical support of care workers, and safety in our communities. Our efforts to fight back against this legislation and call out the leaders who voted against what our communities need are far from over.”
