New York State

Following passage of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in New York State in 2010, the state department of labor has put together guides for employers in English, Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Nepali, Chinese, and Tagalog, as well as a poster in both English and Spanish, to be posted where workers can see (all links are to PDF files, and open in a new window).

Domestic workers care for the things we value the most: our families and our homes. They care for our children, provide essential support for seniors and people with disabilities to live with dignity at home, and perform the domestic work that makes all other work possible. They are skilled and caring professionals, but for many years, they have labored in the shadows, and their work has not been valued.

For the past five years, we have been working to change that. In 2010, we won the first-ever Domestic Worker Bill of Rights in New York state, guaranteeing basic labor protections to domestic workers throughout the state.

We’ve got big plans for 2013 — and we’re counting on your support to transform these plans into rights and equality for hundreds of thousands of women in California, Massachusetts, and Illinois.
