Statement from Ai-jen Poo, Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance

Washington, DC – We applaud President Obama for his call to action to pass immigration reform and including aspiring Americans in his vision for our nation's economy and the American Dream.  We commend his focus on safety and equality for women, and an increase in the minimum wage – these are all critical components of a better future for our children.  We cannot move forward as a nation unless we move forward together.

But we must be careful that the road to citizenship for aspiring Americans does not become an obstacle course with unrealistic requirements.  Millions have already waited for years, while helping to build the economy in many industries – not only science and tech. Undocumented domestic workers care for our children, our homes and our elderly.  Their work makes all other work possible.  It's time we make America work for all of us.
