NY Times Editorial Board agrees - domestic work deserves respect and protections

In an op-ed published on Monday, December 3rd, the New York Times editorial board called for “strong policy reforms, starting with including domestic labor in the list of occupations that enjoy core federal and state workplace protections.”

The op-ed was published in response to the new study, Home Economics: The Invisible and Unregulated World of Domestic Work, which was conducted by NDWA, the Center for Urban Economic Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and DataCenter.

The editorial board concluded, “[t]hese women deserve fair treatment. Achieving basic rights shouldn’t have to depend, haphazardly, on the kindness of their employers.”
