CA Domestic Workers Bill of Rights is in "suspense," but our campaign to win continues!

California Domestic WorkersWe’ve been fighting for domestic workers rights for a long time and in the last 8 months have succeeded in pushing our Domestic Worker Bill of Rights through the California legislature. We are determined to continue our fierce campaign to win the Bill of Rights before the close of this legislative session.

Today, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to keep our bill in the suspense file (meaning it was held in the Appropriations Committee).  But we still have broad community and political support for the movement for domestic worker rights.  From now to September 9, CA legislature is in session and there’s still a process through which our bill can move forward.  The bill of rights remains long overdue and we need to continue pushing hard for the bill this legislative session!

Thank you for your unfaltering support for domestic workers this past week!  Each phone call, postcard and legislative visit was critical in building the political will of Senators to support the bill. Monday’s mobilization of over 250 domestic workers and their supporters from throughout the United States was inspirational and put the spotlight on the Bill of Rights in Sacramento. We are part of a broad and victorious movement advancing domestic workers rights, and we will continue to grow stronger!
