NDWA NY affiliates solidarity statement for #OWS

Domestic Workers at #OWSThe NY affiliates of the National Domestic Workers Alliance stand in solidarity with our fellow workers at Occupy Wall Street, and stand against the attempt to end the peaceful demonstration at Liberty Square on the pretext of "a clean-up."

The 200,000 Domestic workers in New York routinely work long hours -- often for inadequate pay or under poor conditions -- doing the work that makes all other work possible. We understand the need to organize for power, respect, and fair labor standards: the same values that Occupy Wall Street stands for. We also understand that some will use any excuse to stop workers from organizing.

"Cleaning the park" is just that: an excuse. The participants in Occupy Wall Street have organized an effective cleaning system of their own in the park, and have been disciplined about maintaining it.

Instead of using a "clean up" as an excuse to evict peaceful protestors from Liberty Square, we call on Mayor Bloomberg and his administration to focus on cleaning up the greed and exploitation that have left so many workers struggling for basic dignity.
